15 Celebrities That You Forgot Guest-Starred in How I Met Your Mother!

With a certain someone making a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of Season 2 of “How I Met Your Father”, we thought it would be fun to take a stroll back through memory lane and highlight some of the celebrities that many people probably forgot guest-starred in its predecessor, How I Met Your Mother! Many people forget just how popular HIMYM was in its heyday, with some huge celebrities actually contacting the showrunners themselves asking for a guest spot on the show. We have a feeling that a few of the celebrities on this list are going to surprise you!

Britney Spears

Britney Spears guest starred as Abby in Season 3, a receptionist at the dermatologist office where Ted’s future fiancée, Stella, worked. She appears in a few episodes and does her absolute best to sabotage Ted and Stella’s relationship.

Katy Perry

In a 2011 episode, Katy Perry joined the show as Zoey’s (Ted’s girlfriend who he often butted heads with) very good looking, and gullible cousin. When recounting the story Ted referred to her as “Honey” because he couldn’t remember her name, and the phrase “Oh, honey” became instantly quotable.

Regis Philbin

The late Regis Philbin guest starred in an episode for season 4 to help Marshall and the crew in their quest for the best burger in New York. Regis’ hilarious temper (ONIONS!?) and his game show “Heads or Tails,” left a mark on the fandom in just one episode.

Kim Kardashian

There was a “blink and you missed it” cameo by Kim Kardashian in an episode where Marshall was having problems “reading a magazine”. In her quick cameo, she motivated Marshall get over his fear of using a public bathroom.

Carrie Underwood

In 2010, Carrie Underwood guest starred as Tiffany, one of Ted’s crushes that kept stringing him along. She taught Ted an important lesson about keeping people “on the hook”.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez guest starred as an author named Anita Applyby in season five. The “relationship expert” made an appearance on Robin’s morning show and helped her deal with her relationship issues with Barney.

Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole Scherzinger played Jessica Glitter, Robin’s former best friend and partner in crime when she was known as “Robin Sparkles”. Jessica Glitter may have only had a small part to play in the show, but her song with Robin, “Two Beavers Are Better Than One”, added another layer to Robin’s hilarious backstory that the gang uncovered throughout the show.

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes guest-starred as Naomi, the infamous “slutty pumpkin” that Ted met at a Halloween party all the way back in season 1. Ted built her up and put her on such a pedestal over the years but was disappointed when he found out that they did not have chemistry when they finally reconnected.

Mandy Moore

In season 3, Ted got drunk with a girl named Amy, played by Mandy Moore, and woke up the next morning with a butterfly tattoo on his lower back. Mandy may have only been a minor character in the show, but Ted’s drunk tattoo led to him meeting Stella, which had a major effect on the rest of his life.

Bryan Cranston

“Breaking Bad” actor Bryan Cranston guest starred as Ted’s boss, Hammond Druthers, for 3 episodes. Hammond wasn’t a very nice guy, and Lily tried to teach him a lesson.

Enrique Iglesias

Enrique Iglesias guest starred as Gael, a fling and rebound that Robin met in Argentina.

Kal Penn

“Harold and Kumar” star Kal Penn played Kevin, Robin’s therapist-turned-boyfriend.

John Cho

Speaking of “Harold and Kumar”, in season three, Kal Penn’s co-star, John Cho, joined the show and convinced Marshall to join his company. Eventually Marshall decided he did not agree with the company’s ethics and left.

Heidi Klum

In 2007, model Heidi Klum made an appearance playing herself. She met Barney at a Victoria’s Secret party, but Barney could not talk to her because he had “The Yips”.
